Topics Share Essay on The Rich Man The Rich ManFranklin P. Adams is one of the less known American modern poets. His poems, like the poems of many other 20th century American poets, comment the society after the industrial revolution. Adams poem, The Rich Man, concentrates on the class division between the rich and the poor. Furthermore it satirizes the old view of an impecunious life being the good and the virtuous one.
The two first stanzas of the poem are description about the rich man. The fact that he is called the rich man hints that the speaker him/herself is poor.
The first stanza concentrates on describing the rich mans belongings. The first thing the reader finds out the rich man has is a motor-car, nowadays simply a car. In the beginning of the 20th century, when this poem was written, cars were very expensive and only the rich could afford them. His two houses, one in the country and one in the city, and the fact that he is smoking a cigar which costs as much as a good meal furthermore accentuate his richness. The second stanza concentrates on the ease of life the rich man is experiencing. He doesnt have to struggle or even work to stay alive (He frivols through the livelong day).

As a young man, he frequently read church lessons and became curious of the different religions of Christianity. He couldnt understand that if each religion believed in the same god how they could practice their faith so differently. This was very bothersome to him and eventually resulted in his conversion to a fatalistic approach to life. Hardys loss of religious belief was very painful and was accompanied by deep struggles, but his new belief of fatalism enabled him to write many great works. Hardys fatalistic philosophy is expressed the most in Tess of the dUrbervilles, than in any of his other publications. Actually there is similarities between Tesss life and Hardys life.
The use of chance and coincidence is given mostly a negative effect in Tess. Throughout the novel it is often realized that coincidences could have taken place but did not.

The Bible is Gods word and I treat it with a lot of care. The crucifix reminds me of how Jesus died on the cross for me and everyone else so that our sins may be forgiven. A person who isnt Christian might think of it as just two pieces of wood nailed together; an object that they would throw in the trash. People can make any object or place special in an instant. If I didnt have a crucifix, I could cut a cross out an old cardboard box and tack it to my wall. Now I would have a crucifix that I could pray to.
The artistic design isnt important. I can see all of the artwork and beautiful images in my imagination when I am thinking about God. To become closer to God, I dont need to buy a lot of expensive religious decorations. Just one crucifix or picture of Jesus is all that is necessary.
Once I see that, it will activate my imagination and I will start to think nice thoughts about God, and He will do the rest.

Manolin, at the end, comforts him and tells him that he will stay with him and help him. Although Manolin offers his aid the old man knew what a great income the fish was and that he still had to keep on fighting with his cruel life. All the plans he had made with the fish and all the happiness that he had built were destroyed.
The old man, sadly, was defeated by time and nature itself. May be that’s why the book has that name; it wasn’t an specific battle with the fish but with mother nature or just creation itself. Anyway, he lost.
He ended as a defeated man and all of his efforts were in vain.

They lived in peace until one day a troop of Saracens attacked and took both Aucassin and Nicolete captive, seperately. They were both forced onto two different ships. The ships hit rocky water and ended up going in two different directions. Aucassin ended up back in Biaucaire and Nicolete wound up in Carthage. For Aucassin it was not so bad, it had been three years and both of his parent were dead so the city was looking for someone to lead them and so Aucassin did. Where as Nicolete went to Carthage and found her father, the King of Carthage, and realized that she had twelve brothers, all princes. She was never satisfied without Aucassin though so she learned to play the violin. Afterwards, she bargained with a woman to take a ship to Biauvaire.
She showed up there and spoke with Aucassin. She was in disguise, though, so Aucassin had no idea.

She took on a troubadour by the name of Bernart de Ventadour. Despite his lordly name he was not a noble man. His mother was a kitchen servant for the Ventadour’s and it is of gai saber in this family and the lords of Ventadours encouraged Bernart’s poetic talent. He had been a little to warm with Eble II of Ventadour resulting of her being imprisoned and cast off, thus Bernart had to flee for his life.7 Bernart had soon developed a great passion for her which he made known in one of his great love and most admired love songs. When Henry returned from England he sent Bernart away from his wife’s court to England, which Bernart did not enjoy at all and wished he were a swallow so he could fly across the sea back to Eleanor. When he did manage to get back Eleanor in her turn moved with Henry to England.
8Eleanor passed all her claims over to Henry and gave him advice and helped him govern Normandy. On October 25, 1154 King Stephen of England died and the news reached Henry and Eleanor in early November, who rushed impatiently to England, but were lost in a terrible storm, causing them to separate from the fleet due to a dense fog.
